I have a porch with a beautiful mountain view. I would like to minimize blocking the view with traditional ballusters.
Does horizontal cable work for this application and are there any tricks to know about installing. I have 9 inch douglas fir posts so I think they will suffice as anchors.
Thanks, kest

Cable rail shown here. Post and rail in 1x3 rectangular steel tubing, all welded construction.
The mountains are out there, but they are just the Adirondacks.

Stinger, Thanks the rails look great and beautiful chairs. Did you run into any problems with codes? Kest
Every time there is a discussion here on Breaktime about cable rail installations, someone always brings up those pesky codes.
In our area of the northern Adirondacks in upstate NY, there is no code enforcement in play pertaining to just about anything. At the highest end of cost, the Great Camp style prevails, and twigs and sticks abound.
But if you are in a high scrutiny area, where the BI is doing his thing with the 4" ball, and the kids-cannot-climb stuff, you will strike out.
The installation in the pic has the 1/8-dia SS cables on 4" centers, so technically the space between is 3-7/8", but there is enough flex in these, and any cable installation, to get the 4" ball through.
'Nother option is tempered glass panel railing.

Never used them, but they advertise clear ballisters in JLC.

wonder if you could get the same invisible crew that installs the invisible fence to do the install?
kinda an inside joke on the crew, homeowner had a dog that kept getting out.he came out on a monday morning back when i was roofing said he just cant figure it he paid for an invisible fence to be put in
he guessed they put it in on whatever day, paid the salesman but it still didnt stop the dog from running
we used to smoke a bit to get right back in the days so that convo got some milage
as long as the checks not written in invisible ink
Due to recent budget cuts the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.
