Title says it all–I want to use Hardiebacker or similar board outside. As usual, I’m trying to do something unusual. I am making a bench and want the supports to look like they are concrete, but don’t want the weight of concrete. Thought of Hardiebacker (over wood and plywood frame), but although it resists water, I didn’t see on their web site where it can be used outside (I live in Michigan, so freezing could be a problem).

Danno,
Several companies (including Hardie) make an exteriour concrete board. Same composition as the Hardie Board siding that is sold as planks.
Comes in 4x8 sheets. Does need to be painted I believe.
I used an Italian ( I think) made product a few years back that was actually blue in color, very nice stuff, and no paint.
