I have a four inch cast iron vent stack right next to where I would like to vent my dryer. I was all set to hammer drill through the brick wall to the outside when it occurred to me that I might be able to go into the stack. It is a dry vent (air only). What do you think?

Probably a very bad idea -- that 4" vent pipe is probably for a toilet, and I'd expect foul odors to back up into the dryer. Though I can't quote chapter and verse on the plumbing codes, my guess is that this is an idea so unusual that there might not be a specific provision against it.

Over time dryer lint will build up in the vent and eventually block it up. The built up lint is also a fire hazard.

dont do it!!
1. least probability but some rain does come down that stack vent(not much of course)
2. what happens if the sewer backs up? good bye dryer
3. there is methane gas in sewer lines not to mention other nasties, combine methane with nice heated dry air? nuff said
4. good thought though, one less hole in the house
is there actually anything in the codes prohibiting this anyone?
maybe in the sections regarding venting in general not plumbing stacks
That would cancle out the smell the fabric sofener gives yo skivies. Instead of them coming out smelling like spring lilacs they'll remind you of winter farts.
The plumbing codes specify where you can end you stack, venting it indoors is not one of the options. See all the previous post and get your hammer drill going.

No to mention that the vent stack might very well be a longer run than your dryer mfr. recommends (re pushing the air out 25' isn't recommended, even with normal venting). I like to keep 'em short, 10' or less.
This post must be a joke.

At least some body asked. Usally just find it done that way or some other pecular way.

In his first interview since the stroke, Ram Dass, 66, spoke with great difficulty about how his brush with death has changed his ideas about aging, and how the recent loss of two old friends, Timothy Leary and Allen Ginsberg, has convinced him that now, more than ever, is the time to ``Be Here Now.''
