Can someone help a brother out?

jimblodgett | Posted in Photo Gallery on July 25, 2005 03:48am

I’m at my wit’s end trying to download Irfanview.  Lost it when I changed over to Windows XP recently and for the life of me can’t seem to figure out how to get it back.

Could someone PLEASE point me in the right direction?

thanks – Jim

Thanks, Jeff.  I had been to that page several times and tried to download the program and for some reason(s) never could get it straight.  Or maybe I have several copies of it in varius parts of my computer.

Anyways, I got it on my desktop now, accessible, like before.

      Thanks again.

    Hope you get it going...

When I first read your post I thought of when "Wet headed Warrior" asked us for $ several years ago.  Pretty bleak hard luck story.  I sent him some....  I don't think we ever heard from him again.  Maybe he changed his screen name?

What ever happened to WHW?He was pretty gruff, full of P&V, but seemed a good enough, and highly knowledgeable, guy. At least on plumbing. Then there was something about moving and some sort of travel disasters. Sounded to me like a parody of the competent and in control sort of guy I figured him to be.Then asking for money. I thought it was a joke and by the time I realized it was, or seemed real, it was gone. Still not sure I would have sent any. It can help or harm. I have given money and lost friends. Bad enough but in one case the money did no good. It fed an addiction that I only found out about only when he ODed and died. Not that I think WHW, based on his posts, had an addiction. Then I read something, not from WHW himself, that he has moved into some sort of religious community. Sounds like the group trying to form a Christian nation in SC. Talked to one who claimed to be part of the movement recently. He planned to move to SC as soon as his finances allowed. If I wasn't already a committed agnostic he would have converted me. To an atheist. He was a real whack job. Can't say his leaving wouldn't improve this area. Can't say I would accuse WHW of being that twisted. It would be interesting to hear how things are going with Wet Head Warrior. The definitive WHW story. Who knows might make a good book.

WHW is/was Mennonite, and moved to be near family who I would assume are also Mennonite.

Hardly a "Christian Nation" thing, I don't even think that the Mennonites practice communal living any more. At least the ones that I'm familiar with(Iowa) and that's where WHW originated from, at least his father came from there.

I have nothing against the Mennonites. They worry me far less than many of the evangelical churches who wish to force the US to be a 'Christian nation', whatever that means, no matter what the rest of us say. The ones wishing to convert SC, I think it is SC, are just a slightly more radical subset. I find the unification of religion and government to be most worrying. Look what it has done for Afghanistan, Iran, etc. Granted their religion of choice is Islam but I don't see Christianity as functionally different. Experiences in Spain, England, et al show no striking differences between their documented behavior and the worse of any other religions.I had taken it, likely incorrectly as you point out, that his chosen religion was more evangelical, active in forcing their views into the law and onto the less religious. Always seemed that there was more to the WHW story than was readily apparent. Perhaps I have read more into it than there was. By any means it is a shame that he no longer seems to visit the forum. Possibly he does under another name but I doubt he posts much. He had a distinctive writing style.

Now I think your getting them mixed up with the Southern Baptist!!!  <G>

I have never known the Mennonites to involve themselves with politics, at any level. It doesnt seem to be part of their agenda/belief.

I grew up around the Mennonites and I don't recall(not that it couldn't have happened, after all I wasn't paying that much attention to matters like this) a single incident of any member voicing their political thoughts. As far as I had seen they believe more in a "lead by example" then "shove it down your throat."

I don't belive that WHW has came back in here, I think he'd be to proud to sneak in anonymously, for now I just hope he finds what he needed to, for himself and his family.

Careful.... I got crucified about a year ago here for bringing that subject up.  Seems to still be a tender  wound for some.

I doubt we'll ever really know the whole story.

Now that I recall.... I think I suggested that it would have been nice to hear back from him in an "I'm ok, thanks for the help"  kind of way.  I got jumped on for "needing to be rewarded for my charity".  Got ugly quick.

      1. DaveRicheson | Aug 12, 2005 02:57am | #7

        I remember that one.

Watched it from the side lines.

        Yer right, it got ugly.

I don't remember any ugly about it, just some facts got set straight and information holes got filled in, and the origianal impression Brian made by the way he asked got corrected and efveryone apologized all around...'course maybe it got ugly later when I quit reading it

I must have missed that one. Maybe before my time. Anyhow....Christian Nation? I want to know more. This kind of #### intrigues me.

ah, come on Brian it wasn't that bad!

I think Newf showed where WHW had actually posted here telling that he made it and would someday come back to tell his whole sad/funny story.

I've spoken to a member of his family and he is in SC or NC, don't remember which and is doing well.

I was pretty bad Doug.  I got ripped out of context and chewed on pretty good.  The end result of that is never a good thing as my mouth starts to go off like a cannon all by itself.  I'm really just an innocent bystander like the rest of you.  ;)

          1. DougU | Aug 12, 2005 03:17am | #12

OK, it did get out of hand.

I'm sure you were just as curious as the rest of us, you just happened to be the one to ask out loud! :)

Re: "That, boys, was some serious thread drift."Hell, this is an advanced group on this forum. Threads that stay on topic are entirely too boring and easy to shoot. I like the ones that present as moving targets. Keeps the folks on their toes.
