Can you have a single step between two landings?
I have a rough opening going into a basement that is not allowing me to build a U shaped staircase that can meet the requirements for riser, tread and headroom.
So instead of having a hypothetical 6′ x 3′ landing can I have 2 landings that are 3′ x 3′ separated in height by a riser that matches the others?
I don’t see why not but I also have never seen it.
Thank you in advance.

It seems as though, based on this video, that I can. Thanks to everyone who at least contemplated this!

I personally think it would be a bit strange to have one step between two landings and may feel a bit awkward when walking. I think I would opt for a few winders to make the turn.
I hear you...here is a video on that if you are interested.

I'm going to take your advise. Thank you.
Yes. Without question.
