   Greetings Jim, Welcome to Breaktime.

   On the homepage of Fine Homebuilding there is a listing for magazine index that you can use.

   That info you are thinking of may have been in the letter column of FH issue#126 on page 6-8 where a guy from Canada mentioned a US product called 'Corrosion Block' said to be available in autoparts stores or in Canada a product called Rust Check in an areosol can.

   Jim,
   I don't know about the inside of a compressor but I use a rust converter called ChemPrime on other rusty things. It works by changing the iron oxide to iron phosphate. I prime and then paint after using. It won't stop rust from reoccuring if you don't paint.

   Motorcycle shops and small engine shops sell a product made to coat the inside of gas tanks to coat the rust and plug pinhole leaks.  It sets up to kind of a rubbery consistency.

   A little spendy as I recall, but it works.  When you dump it in the tank, you have to roll the tank around so that it coats all the surfaces.  For a compressor tank, you'd probably need to remove the petcocks and relief ports so they didn't get plugged up.

   I have coated tanks with both the product for gas tanks and plain old Rustoleum.  Both work fine.  Rustoleum on clean tanks the other on rusty.  But you need to disconnect everything in order to do it or you will plug up the openings and parts like the pressure switch, safety valve etc.  DanT
