Look closely at these common locations for hazardous materials in older homes.

round here, it's full-dimension 2x stock from the local sawmill, usually 2x8, t&g'd.
thanx Pro,
'round here folks don't know what it is, keep tryin' to tell me to go with standard t&g? not the same right? i understand from another source that it tends to be very rough which is o.k. since i want that look anyway, and that it is alot cheaper? need to find source in kalifrornia (central), tried internet search but came up empty, would it be called something else maybe?

Check around in yer yeller pages for recycled lumber too..I know that some folks get old water tanks and wine cassions from redwood in your neck of the woods..add spline or mill a tongue and groove and you got a killer floor. Or contact a local sawmill and then same thing with a spline or T&G.
The redwood is softer than most flooring but it will patinze well with a few dings an dents. Might be worth a look.
Go Stab yourself Ya Putz! Ya think I Parked here?
thanx SHERE,
unfortunantly, our local unconstitutional building dept. will not go for this, they say because of insects, water logged or "wine logged" wood can not be used for structural components...go figure? so i guess i gotta do what the 'lil dictators say or else!! damm, i guess we need another revolution if we want to keep these beaurocrats off of our property!! as far as a "sawmill" i really don't think there are any left in kalifornia they were ran out a long time ago by the enviromentalists etc. so the search will continue.

I recently installed about 1400 sf of car siding, which was 1x6 #1 SYPine, T&G, beveled edges, with a v-groove down the middle. My supplier also had it in #2 pine without the center groove.
If you want the look of the recycled wood, why not use it as a veneer? Use something code-approved for the structural component, then apply the recycled wood on top for looks.

Haven't heard of the decking but have car siding on my house.

The only that I ever saw was recycled from RR cars in Colorado. It was fir, and was about 2-1/4" thick by maybe 7" so must have been milled from 3x8s I suppose
