We had a Cop w/ a dog, a Fireman, an Archy, an organ donation Director, a video ad-Man, an Army man w/ weapons……..and me, a builder.
Kids loved mine the best………no small measure when you shoot candy at them with a miniture tribuchet!
I spent the first part pointing out to the kids that we are all builders. Our first structure as children typically is a fort made of blankets over a dining room table for a sleep-over.
Then I went into the use of math, science, history and communication as skills needed to succeed…………blah……..blah……..the importance of imagination, problem solving………..engineers, archys, excavators, trades, and the need for them in the future.
and then, “building can be for fun!” I built a scale model of a tribuchet, a counter-balance seige machine and used it to demonstrate ideas, science, plans, production and outcome….so the kids shot Star-burst candy across the room to their pals.
It was great……….thanks all to you guys for all your ideas and insight!
BTY……..no objection from the “nannys” concerning the weapon. I was ready to point out the irony of an Army guy there.
Thanks again!

Got any pix of your deadly weapon?

I'll get a pic as soon as I pry the contraption from my 13 yo boy. He took it to school today!
Would you be willing to post / e-mail a copy of your presentation for potential use by others?
Thanks.
Kathleen
Sure......I guess. I'm not sure what you'd like. Pictures? Transcript?
Thanks for the update. I appreciate it when folks come back to tell us what's happened after we give some input into something.

Pictures, notes, transcript would be great--but I'm guessing that that is not readily available.

when you can upstage a dog, a fireman, and someone who removes body parts . . . that's a good day <g>
Congratulations!
