Carpenter/Foreman wanted, western MA

ovolo | Posted in Help/Work Wanted on December 7, 2006 01:19am

I am looking for the right match for our crew. We need an expereinced framer / foremen, (all around good carpenter) who likes working with others has a good attitude, can delegate and an interest in doing good work. experience or interest in “green building” would be good. We could talk long or short term, salary hourly or sub..

    Hi Arthur.

Just wanted to give you a quick 'heads up'.  I'm in MA too and recently hired a couple more guys for my framing crew.  I ran a $20 ad on Craig's List and got about 30 replies in the first week.  Out of that 30, I was surprised to find that at least 10 of them caught my attention and seemed well qualified and well spoken (or written, as it was).  I talked to about 6 or 7 of my 'favorites' and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the talent available for hire right now.

Of course the proof comes when the rubber hits the road on the jobsite.  But I found a real gem of an employee through that site.  Seems things have slowed up here in MA for some guys,  so there's some decent talent available out there.

Yeah, you'll get some real whack jobs replying too, but they make it pretty easy to spot them before you waste your time with even a phone call.

Good luck.  I hope you find a good match.

I am ready for a change.

Wish wife was ready to head that way in general.

thanks for the heads up Diesel..! I might try that. We are relatively remote out here, I don't know if that would work so well.I figure the only way I might get the kind of person I need is if an experienced guy is planning to move into the area. Someone who is happier not dealing with the customer logistics and estimating. Anyone who has lived here long enough usually makes enough contacts and goes into business for himself too quick..Hey I actually worked the whole day..today. made the guys nuts.. I was having a blast in the cold ..it felt sooo good.. layered up just like old times, snotty nose running, dropping things. I felt productive as hell..it was gratifying. I would genuinely like to be doing this again. I have been lately because I'm short handed. Instead I end up getting in and out of my truck multiple times a day and end up in the office for 60% of it. arthurhttp://www.thesmallbuildingcompany.com

          Damn, I wish I could.

I know a guy up that way, think he is in mass, but everythign is up there to me.

I am doing my first big custom house in years.  Probably the last one for years too.

Just no call for my custom skills here, but it is home.Friends help you move.

Craigslist charges for help wanted and and apartment ads in some large markets like Boston, New York, Chicago, etc.
They have to make some money too. Stu

Most are.  And in fact up until about a month and a half ago the Help Wanted was free too.  But they had so many listings and repeat listings and "sell from your home" type ads that they instituted a $20 fee to try and weed out some of the fluff.  Seems to have worked.View Image
