Hi, we’re putting carpet in our basement (dry for the last 5 yrs.), and I’m thinking of using a vapor barrier to limit humidity, and the Luxurwear pad. The sales people don’t recommend either. They say to use 6# rebond (recycled foam), and no barrier, so it will breathe better. What do you think, and what would you use? Thanks!!

In older homes like these, the main remodeling goal is often a more welcoming, more social, and more functional kitchen.

Use vinyl tiles and area rugs and you will forever thank me.

I thought about that, certainly. But with the layout of the rooms, and the coolness of it (plus the concrete is hard on the feet for an apartment), we decided to go with carpet. I'm looking for some way to make the best out of that choice. We chose a carpet with a plastic backing, and it really comes down to whether we should apply the vapor barrier (I'm in favor of it), and which pad to use. Thanks for taking the time to answer, Gene.
In that case, install cork tiles or floating floor. You will get the cushion you want, insulate from the cold floor, easy to maintain and doesn't harbor mold or mildew.
Non-alergenic as well.
Carpets in the basement have been the cause of countless health problems.
