Hello, My wife won a church raffle for 80 yards of carpet and padding, installation not included. The carpet dealer that is supplying the carpet is quoting us a price of $16.00 per yard for installation. This seems to me to be outrageously high. Can some of you people please share with me an average installation price that you pay? Thanks. Robert

Sounds like he is also charging you for the carpet and the pad.
The easiest way to get an accurate figure is to go to the dealer as a customer and price out the actual product and installation.
I pay labor between $3 and $4 per yard. They supply tack strips and metal. Extra for moving furniture.
*Just had some installed.$2.50 a yard including all tack strips. This was a dealer, not an individual doing it on the side.Their price is WAY out of line.James DuHamel
*You apparently "won" the right to pay full price, plus...
*Thanks Guys, My wife called around to other carpet suppliers and most will not install carpet other than theirs but she found one place that will install for just under $5.00 including ripping out old carpet. By the way all the other places were charging between $2.50 and $4.00 for installation of their carpet. Thanks again, Robert
*Now look thru the yellow pages for Carpet Installation and make a few phone calls. If that's not enough look for Carpet Layer's Equipment and Supplies and see if they will recommend an independant installer.
*Robert,I don't think churches should be encouraging gambling with raffles anyway but that's another matter. The gambling industry is full of crooks so don't expect much different from a "church" doing it.The point I would like to make based on this is that the governing body (deacons or whatever) of the church should know about this scam. The guy is likely taking a tax deduction for his "donation" and then still charging you full price. He ends up ahead and if you are unhappy with it he's then likely to say, "What do ya want fer free?"
*I strongly agree with piffin that the church should be informed.Rich Beckman
*Average price per yard for installation in the northeast is between $3.50 & $5.50, that includes materials like seam tape, tackless, etc..
*Jamie has it right, b4 using YPs try this sitehttp://cfi-installers.org/
*You could also DIY. For a one time job, a kicker can be made from tack strip pieces and 2x4 with pad on the end, stretcher the same way (long 2x4s with tack strips & bolt holes), old clothes iron for seaming tape. Did it like this, as rank amateur, only had to restretch one 24 ft span 2 yrs later. Have to admire the professionals' endurance, my knees would fail after more than a few rooms. I'll likely have it installed next time (got more money now :>)
