I’m getting ready to build a house that has an attatched carport with two bedrooms above it. I’m wondering if a need to do something spcecial with the lid . I was planning on insulating (vapor barrier on top) and sheathing the bottom with textured plywood. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Carport ceilings are notorious places for assorted insects and spiders to inhabit and leave their life's residues. Textured plywood leaves the critters lots of footholds to stick their stuff to, but make it horrible for us humans to clean.
I would consider using vinyl or aluminum, soffit (nonperforated), or smooth hardiplank 4x8 sheets, or agricultural metal roofing. All of which can be lightly hosed and scrubbed as needed.
Just a thought as I am usually assigned to clean my garages "TEXTURED" wood walls and ceiling. Almost as bad as going to the dentist........................Iron Helix
I think you should have a fire resistant material either acting as the ceiling or under it. It may be required by code. Car fires happen sometimes.
I was thinking the same thing but taping and muding fire rated drywall outside in Alaska in September could pose a problem. It is possible though.
I fear we are opening a can of worms ! Yes , I think its possible using wet rock and hot mud , and epoxy paint.

But that is not what we consider firewall gypson .

Absolutely must be fire rated. Wire lath (flat rib) over the framing finished with cement plaster is an everlasting solution. Put a sand finish on it.
