How do you attach wood casing to vinyl windows? I need to install 1/4″ ext jamb first. There is hardly any frame to nail to. Will nails hold in vinyl frame?

Are your jamb extensions vinyl or wood or something else? I've been using Azek recently when that needs to be done.
How wide is the casing? For 2-1/4" or similar it works fine to hit the framing only if the wall is fairly planar and the jamb extensions are consistent with the wall. Make sure the full jamb extension is shimmed nice and flat in that case since it has no support on the inside edge.
It does work to nail to vinyl jamb extensions with 18ga or pins but I try to avoid it when I can.

In the past I have used a hot glue to attach extension jambs(EJ) to vinyl windows. They were thicker than 1/4" but it worked great. I wiped the window with alcohol wipes prior to for cleaning the vinyl. I would not nail thru the EJ if it is only 1/4". I too would nail thru the wall/framing around to the window.
Good luck.
Thanks for the help. Extension jambs are wood. I guess I'll silicone (paintable) them to window frames, attach casing by nailing only into studs, then caulk casing edge to frame. I hope to talk owner into using 1X4 casing. Will preassemble, then install.
