HAd a lil’ debate with one of my helpers today.
He claims that cats between exterior studs are specifically for strenthening the walls….I claim they are fireblocks.
He claims you need them on all interior walls as well….I say nope just bearing walls and exterior walls for fire.
So who is right? Maybe both of us?

When we meet, we say, Namaste’..it means..

- I honor the place in you of love, of light, of truth, of peace.
- I honor the place within you where if you are in that place in you

The last time I put a cat in a wall, I ended up with scratches all over my arms and face.
You knew that was coming right????

Not sure what you mean by CATS, but it sounds like you are talking about Fire Blocking. Their purpose can be understood by their name - Fire Block.
However, they also provide ridgidity and strength to the studs as well. So, I guess you both may be right.
They are not code here anymore, but I still like to use them on exterior walls to hel0p keep the studs in alignment for the sheathing. It also helps control bowing and twisting of studs (high humidity here, so bowing and twisting are a common occurence).
