I am repairing a chimney and have made up all the copper step flashing, at the chumney/roof connection, w/”spring locks” that hold the copper in the joints. What is best here? Mortar them in or use polyureathane caulk and backer rods?
The lip of the locks only leave about 1/4″+ of brick to mortar or caulk to. The leg of the flashing is 1 1/2″ deep, and the joints a little deeper.
Also, on the vertical seams, what adheres and weathers best to copper?
Silicone/ureathane/other?

I use a tripolymer caulk product from Geocel. It comes in various colors as well as clear and adheres well to anything I've used it on at any temperature as long as the surfaces are clean and DRY.
