I just completed a decking project with Trex composite decking. The old deck was 2 * 6 pt. Now there is a 1/4″ gap beneath the lap siding and the Trex. The customer has 1/2 faced foam sheathing. I was curious as to leave this uncaulked or to caulk it? The whole reason for the resurfacing was due to rot from moisture. Alot of foliage and such around the deck. so, would this be good to leave uncaulked to allow moisture to dry out or will it allow insects and such another avenue into the house. The deck only sits about 8″ above the foundation. The only problem was the original carpenter who installed the deck did no flashing. I flashed around the doors. Thanks for any input. 🙂

You need to be a bit more specific.
From what I gather.....you need to flash where it wasnt done. Caulking will only be temporary.

The reason I didn't flash the rest of the deck is because they have cedar lap siding. The house is approx 20 years old. I just dont want to create more of a mess than I started with, ie... Trying to pry up the siding to get the flashing underneath and then cracking or breaking the bottom course. The deck also has two 6' sliders so I would in turn have to remove the legs of the trim to get behind them. I know that is the absolute correct way to protect the house and the ledger it is just a matter of the ends justifying the means. Thanks Andy......
so caulk it bro..........

you really need to flash that ledger! if you have to replace some siding or trim so what? that is the job. if you dont you will be sorry.
I agree it needs flashing. Would have been easy enough to do when the deck boards were off but not now so he might as well caulk it and then hide..
