Hi,
I have recently had a contractor building a garage/apartment with cedar shake shingle siding, near the ocean with lots of salt spray and rain.
The contractor installed the shingles without weaving the corners, and there are no cornerboards. My understanding is weaving the corners is the norm to prevent weathering.
Is this a problem beyond aethetics and is there anything that can be done about it now?
Thanks, G

If you haven't paid yet you have some leverage but that also depends on your contract language. If you have already paid, you have just experienced a expensive lesson.
If i havent fully paid would I ask them to completely redo the shingles, which seems difficult? Or demand a discount? Is this a problem for the long term weatherability, or just aesthetic? (There are Zip boards underneath).
Can you send us a picture ? How detailed is your contract?
One "fix" would be alum siding corners made for shakes here:http://www.prosidingaccessories.com/Default.aspx
