I have been blessed with a new Estwing cedar hatchett to use for my new handsplit cedar roof I am about to install on the kids playhouse. Err only one problem, I am not sure what the gizmo with the pin and four holes is for on the blade. How do I use this gem ?
Thanks a bunch, Rick

carefully... it should be sharp enough to shave with.. because you use it to shave the shakes for fit..
the removeable pin is a guage.. the distance between the striking head and the pin is your exposure.. set teh pin to the exposure you want .. lay the hatchet on it's side and slide the pin against the butt of the lower shingle.. striking head up the roof.. lay the next course on top of the striking head..
the problem i always had with a hatchet was how to carry it.. if you put it in your hammer holster you will lay your forearm open on the razor edge..
