Am building a seasonal cottage on an island off the coast of Maine. It is a timber-framed cape with 4 inch SIPs on walls and roof. Plan to use white cedar shingles on the exterior walls. Have heard some discussion about the wisdom of nailing cedar shingles directly to the OSB sheathing (it is covered with Tyvek). Some people say I should first nail horizontal lath to sheathing, and then nail cedar shingles to the lath, to prevent moisture from collecting behind the shingles. Any thoughts or recommendations?
