Hey All,
Just a quick question about some cedar siding. I want to match the other side of my barn for some repairs around windows and trim.
I’m trying to price things out. I’m pretty sure the current siding is red cedar shakes but I just want a second opinion before ordering a few boxes.
See attached picture for reference. Thanks!

They look like red cedar to me. How they weather does depend to a degree on which side of the house they're on, though.
Western Red Cedar. Look like *shingles* not shakes (which are split, rather than sawn like shingles). With that exposure, they are probably "perfection" size, which is 18" tall. Just finished redoing my house last year and happened to notice that the $100 bundles (four to a square) of #1 grade I bought are now $193. Good luck.
Thank you! Yes luckily I only need about four bundles. Still going to be expensive but nothing too crazy
I can't tell from the photo. I don't know how anyone could, but that doesn't stop people. :-) I have weathered white cedar shingles on my house that looks exactly like that, but my old house had red cedar shingles that also looked exactly like that when weathered. Only sure way is to see the back, unweathered side of one, or maybe cut into one. I also can't tell from the photo whether they're shingles or shakes.
Yea unfortunately I can’t upload a high res picture to this forum. I have a few that are much better quality on my phone but it happens
