Recently completed installing cedar shingles on our cottage. The shingles we used were “bleached” with the intent that they would age grey evenly over time. Very happy with the look but now are faced with some water staining where rainwater falls to the ground. We did not install rain gutters on advice from our builder based on extreme icing that we have in the area. Landscaping has not been completed as of yet.
Inquiring to see if any forum members can suggest short/long term solutions on the ground to avoid water from splashing up and staining.
Attached photos are during heavy rains and water marks are exaggerated but you get the point.
Many thanks.

I guess I'd ask the builder for his advice.
I've used a 18" strip of EDPM rubber membrane under the eaves covered by 18" square bluestone, sloped away from the house to direct water away from the foundation (which has avoided staining the clapboard siding- but my siding is painted with solid stain.)
Gravel over the rubber would probably work and would be less expensive.
Love the cedar shingles look! For the water stains, had a similar sandy splash issue on a UAESafari. Consider adding a stone border or gravel around the cottage. It worked wonders for us!
