Cedar Siding Stains around nail heads plus best way to remove
Hi,
Trying to understand if I should have stains around nail heads if the nails were Stainless Steel. I see stains around some nail heads but not around others. I am thinking I am going to have to use a nail punch and fill with stainable wood filler. Any other ideas?

The closeup almost looks like the pneumatic gun had an overabundance of lubricating oil and stained the cedar (ask me how I know). The fact that all of them on the lower exposures show this suggests to me either you have low grade stainless that is not as corrosion resistant as the conditions require, or (long shot), there's some moisture working out the nail from behind that is stained by felt paper. The close up looks like oil staining. The full shot does look like corrosion staining.
Looks like tanin bleed to me. Try some oxalic acid and see what happens
