Hello all,
I am trying to keep the costs down on a custom home in SW Colorado and the Homeowner wants cedar T&G siding….great choice but pricey. Has anyone heard of cedar veneered siding and if you have, is it worth the savings?
Thanks for the time!

cedar vaneer?........
I've built some lindal cedar homes, but when I built my own I found the cedar a bit too costly for my budget......so I opted for locally cut white pine.
Three years and one application of LifeTime wood treatment (it speeds the natural aging process and pretty soon your house blends with the woods ....great stuff) no problems yet and no signs of rot etc.....
The white pine must be air dried though, just like the old barns....and it should last as long. they say kiln dried is no good to use.
Smell them little flowers...play marbles with the kiddies...listen to them birdies....and don't forget to laugh at the pomposity of yourself.

vinyl siding has a cedar siding imitation.
worth the savings? Guess it depends. <G>

I see these guys can make it in any profile you want, channel, t+g, etc.
Have used the bevel siding recently and it is a good product.
You could also try cement board siding stained to look like cedar.
(sort of)
would be a bit cheaper costwise and less maintenance.
