Greetings,
I live in a 40 year old rambler near Washington DC. The previous owners did a lot of work to spruce up the interiors but I’ve recently noticed that the seams on the drywall on the ceilings are starting to show.
I’d been planning some ceiling work (new recessed lighting, celing fan, etc) anyway and I thought I might look into fixing the joints at the same time. I have pretty extensive experience with a wide variety of DIY home improvements but I’m not a professional at this stuff by any means and I’m not quite sure about the best way to proceed when the entire seam is starting to show. I haven’t got any nail pops. It’s just a slight line/bulge that appears for the length of the drywall panel.
Do I just need to resecure the panels to the joists and then cover the screws and re-tape the seam, or is something more complicated (e.g. replacing the panels altogether) involved?
Thanks for any advice.

ok, you never mentioned loose tape. Just that the joint is bulging . Put a 12 inch knife across the joint and determine if its bulge, or the joint still recessed?
If the joint is recessed, just run it once or twice with the 12 inch knife. If there is a hump in the joint, run beside it on both sides with an 8. When that dries , put the 12 across the full joint, If your still high, run the sides with a 10. These are boild coats , so you are trying to leave as much mud as you can with out the edges getting bigger than a quarter of an inch. Once you have a staight across joint , taper it out with a twelve. Dress the center to with a twelve, to your satisfaction. Thats all there is to it .
Have fun ,
