I have found a new way to carry my cell phone which solves some problems for me.
I attach a key ring to a belt loop on each pair of my trousers as shown in the photos below.
The phone no longer interferes with my overhang and does not fall off when I loosen my belt.

By the way I put a dab of silicone on each side of the phone which makes it a lot easier to get the phone out of the carrier.
Instead of plain Dickies, try the painter's pants. The folding-rule pocket on the right leg is the best place I've ever found to carry a cell. Same goes for Carhartts or any standard carpenter's jean.

Ditto that. The only time that doesn't work well for me is when I'm on a tractor. The phone touches the edge of the seat, and it feels like it's vibrating(ringing).
If I'm wearing bib overalls, I keep it in the vest pocket. Her kisses left something to be desired............The rest of her.
I find if I keep anything heavier than a pencil in the chest pocket of a pair of bibs, it falls out whenever I bend over. So I picked up a Kuny's cell holder for those times I don't have a rule pocket. It has a heavy-duty metal clip that hooks right on the edge of the regular side pocket on a pair of jeans. The phone hangs low enough that way it doesn't jab me every time I have to move, twist, walk, or bend....

I tried clipping the phone on my pocket and on my belt and it was always falling on the floor.
Shirt pocket ditto.
The key rings are cheap and they really work best for the type phone case I have.
