I poured a small cement pad for my deck step base. After doing so I had decided to widen the steps. The cement pad is 2′ x 5′ x 5″ deep. I need a foot more on both sides. Am I screwed or can I add on to the pad?

You basically don't need the part in the middle, assuming that the stringers will rest on the extensions. But it would probably be wise to insert some pins before pouring the new bits, to keep everything on the same level.
Of course, you could just use concrete blocks.
