central air and heat dampers
I added a second story addition to my home a year ago, in the process we switched from base board to hydro air . But the dampers for the two zones dont work and i cant get the contracor back to fix it. The upstairs will be 85 with the downstairs at 60.
I was contemplating trying to install manual dampers two the two zones in the attic off the air handler where it splitts. Is this an adequate solution, any ideas?

2 zones
Multipyl zones mean multipyl T-stats.. Check the low voltage to the stats and then to the zone damper actuators.
Did they ever work or is this a recent problem ? Sounds like the dampers are stuck in a set position, which may indicate the loss of power or signal to the actuactor.
Or call another contractor to trouble shoot the problem after telling the original installer. The $$ spent tyo have the system operating corectly would be well spent IMO. Better than manually changing a damper every time there is a change in the weather.
I wonder why the hell you can't get the contractors back. Trouble-shooting a misbehaving damper should be fairly simple if you know what you're doing, but maybe these guys know they screwed the pooch somehow. (Did the dampers ever work right?)
If you don't understand the controls I'd recommend you hire a different company to fix things. And if you haven't fully paid the first company, don't, until it's working correctly.
(I can tell you that having a properly working automatic damper setup is much, much more pleasant than trying to manage manual dampers in a 2-story house.)
