justin, there are a few products to use for backer board in a tub surround, the best is mortor board or dura rock ( brand ). another product is densesheild, i have only used it once, the manufactuer claims that it will out preform mortor board, cost is comperiable, cuts just like sheet rock. i would only use green sheetrock if specified by the customer and only after giving a disclaimer about using the product. some people are just cheap. if thats what they want give it to them, and i tell them that i will not warrinty ( sp ) the backer and that i will not be responsiable for any damage that WILL occur to the framing in the future. if it is for you i would use mortor board or dense sheild ( its a georga pacific product you can check it out at their web site or in the fhb materials archives. ) good luck

Just for the record, the product is Dens Shield; not dense shield. For walls, its OK. For floors, stay away.
Davo.
*Davo,Have you had negative experience with Dens Shield on floors? Over the past year, several people have commented that they didn't know how good it was for floors, but no one has posted "I used it (or someone I know used it) for floors and it didn't work."Rich Beckman
