OK, I NEED HELP! We are re-doing our kitchen and we HAD a ceramic top to our stove. I loved the ease of cleaning, it was just amazing. However, we are now going to buy a new stove/range. Am I nuts not to get gas? People LOVE gas and since I haven’t had it in years I wonder if its that much better for cooking. Do the benefits of cooking with gas outway the extensive cleaning it needs? And I know there is some minimum requirements for gas (BTU?) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Actually gas is really great. It is much faster - and really worth the bother. I don't find it much harder to clean.
It depends on how you cook.
Me? I would never be without gas again. It's so much more responsive, from the lows to the highs in just a second, and not that hard to clean--I've found my friend's glass-top stove to be much more difficult.
Most gas ranges these days have sealed burners, so cleaning is not really an issue. As for BTUs, unless you really do a lot of cooking, what's available on most standard ranges will be fine.
Can you provide more information on how/what you cook? Do you love to cook? Do you cook every night? Do you bake a lot? Do you do a lot of sauteing or simmering? That kind of information will help.

hi there
thanks for your helpfulness. I LOVE TO COOK! I cook all the time. I also use the oven 2/3 times a week. I roast, bake, saute, stirfry...you name it. That's why this ceramic stove was out of this world. Every night I would just wipe it clean with a rag. I know it's not hard to get the gas burners clean, it's just a pain to remove them and soak/scrub etc. And what is your opinion of the gas stovetop but electrical oven?
thanks again
Sounds like you would benefit from a gas stove, then. I bet you would love the responsiveness of it--world of difference--and in the end, it's not that much more to clean than the ceramic.
The burner grids don't have to be removed all that often, and I just run mine through the dishwasher.
The dual-fuel (gas cooktop, electric oven) is a good choice for someone that likes to bake, because you get the more precise control of the electric oven and the responsiveness of the gas.
The price for dual-fuel is quite a bit more than for all gas, though, and the electrical component adds some complexity, but there are always tradeoffs.
I'm not sure what price levels and/or brands you're looking at, but go to your local appliance store and look at the offerings there to see what you might like.
