Local distributor has good pricing on certainteed but very little knowledge of the product. All special order. Trying to research as much as I can before I order.
I’m interested to learn more about what they list as an 8 1/4″ x 12 ft Perfection Shingle. How applied, coverage, experience with.
Also, how much coverage can I expect from the randon square straight edge 48″ x 12″ panels at 5″ exposure. How many panels per square?
Like I said, not much info from the distributor.
Thanks. Andy

Hi Andy,
I just order a bunch of the half round 48" shingles this morning for a gable end. They weren't cheap, that's for sure. I don't know if you've had a chance to look at the Certainteed site, but there is decent instructions here.
If you'll be waiting a few days, I'll let you know how they are to work with.
Todd
Thanks Buddy, I'd appreciate any information
They're not cheap, that's for sure. How many per square did you figure?
Each 'shingle' seems to cover about 2 sq feet - that's the 48" version. I've got a tough area to cover, though, triangular with a big gable vent, so I ended up picking up a few extra. I'll take pictures of the install.Todd
Hey Andy,I put up a bunch this weekend. I found them reasonably easy to work with, though we're using a rainscreen wall (with furring strips, not the crinkly membrane), which made things a bit trickier: The odd courses are offset from the even courses by 21", which means the ends don't land on rainscreen strips. So we ended up putting in extra little blocks to support the ends. The other very minor annoyance is that, for a gable end, you end up cutting the 'lobe' of the shingle off, so that you have to face-nail these little pieces at each end of many of the courses. I'd use them again, and they look really good. At the price, I'd only consider them for details, though. Todd
Thanks for your help. Glad you're having good luck with your project
Hey ,the shapes siding is very expensive!!! I was shocked. You'll need about 60.3 peices per square at the 5" exposure.
The perfection shingles are just like the select cedarmill except that the lines go the other way to look like shingles and they have a slight groove line on the face about 1/8' deep. Hope that helps.
Here in Ma. a unit in a color of 6.25 cedarmill is $2000.00 and covers about 1500sqft. of wall.A unit of shapes the 16"x48"size colored is $1500.00 and covers about 300 sqft.of wall. hope this helps. Shapes are reaaaal expensive.
