Good day all! We’re tired of the vinyl AND brick on our home. I’d like to brick the entire structure if budget allows. My question is this: Do you have to take the existing brick down to the footing OR can you take a few courses down below ground level and start the new brick on top of an existing course? I understand that this is by no means a DIY project. If anyone has any experience in bricking a home, I’d really like to ask more questions and would welcome a discussion. Please feel free to mail me. [email protected]

Ronny - There shouldn't be a problem removing the existing brick to just below finish grade - you may want to add ties at the old brick/new brick joint (make sure you remove the mortar on top of the last old course to remain).
But, there may not be a brick shelf on the vinyl siding sides - that could be the real problem. You need room for an airspace and the brick - usually 4 to 4-1/2" or so. For those areas you will have to build up from the footing (block below grade) taking special care to make sure that the block is bonded to the existing foundation wall. Don't forget that every window will need to be addressed, along with hose bibb extensions, outlet relocations, etc. It will get pricey.
*Go into ixl, it is a brick company and in their web site they give you a detailed description of how to face a house with brick. Don't know the exact web site address though.
*Ronny, you may also want look into cultured stone/brick products.cultured stoneeldorado stone
*Ronny,You may want to look at NovaBrik. This is what it's called in Canada but it might be the same in the U.S. The brick system is designed to be mortarless ie. the bricks interlock one on top of the other and overlap the course below, like shingles. The bricks themselves are fastened to furring strips on the wall every few coarses. The sysytem was designed to retrofit houses with brick that don't have a foundation suitable for brick exteroirs.Have a look at http://www.novabrikcanada.comSorry, I can't link worh a s&%tcm
