I am finally building my own house and I’d like to have a home shop. How would I go about puting a basement in a garage. Everytime I build a garage I think about the space that is available down there. Any idea’s or suggestions

This has also been a question of mine in times past. You could use any of the traditional building materials; wood beams, steel, or prestressed prepoured concrete beams. Each will need to be engineered for the anticipated loads, both live and dead loads. Cost should tell you whether this is a viable and economic consideration. Good luck.
*I have a new Chat room for DIYers and Pros. This is a true IRC chat room but made for a web page.If you send me an email I'll consider adding you to the AOP list which will allow you to kick out people and/or ban people if they misbehave. The URL is:Home Improvement ChatIf you guys don't like this one, I have about ten other chat rooms I can bring up. The miningco.com under business / construction has a chat room.
P.S. I posted this earlier and it never made it. Whats up Sean.I'm not happy at all with this format. You would think the newest messages would pop up with the original thread, but no, that may cause a shut down till 5:00 P.M. the next day. Oh sorry, my fault, apparently you've been working on this problem.
*Never mind I found that post in another group. But don't think you are off the hook Sean. I hear Imus say that the most undependable people in the world are cocaine dealers, I vote for web masters.
