That's freakin' cool Frenchy!
IIRC, the half-timbering is applied outside your SIPS and the real structural timber frame inside, right?
How's that shingle bending coming?
Did you decide against dormers on your turret?
Mike,
Actually if you looked real close you'd see the timbers on the outside are timber framed.. that is they have real mortice and tenion joints and are fully load bearing. then come the SIP's and then the inside timbers. Another words there is some really silly strength numbers.
shingle bending takes me 9 minutes per shingle 4 in the microwave and 5 forming in the steam box. Then while it's hot I have a pully and rope set up that I quickly run it up to the roof and have someone nail it in place. Here's a picture of my set up.
As for the dormer I would have run out of time if I tried to do that. so that's a next year thing..

frenchy, Man you may be full of it sometimes but that house is OUTSTANDING!!!!! I will cheerfully admit that the thought of trying to do all that work would put me around the bend."Poor is not the person who has too little, but the person who craves more."...Seneca
dovetail,
thank you for your kind words.
see, liberals work hard too..

Had to give the tele handler back? :)
Looks very nice. Keep the pictures coming.
JAlden,
yeh! They don't let you keep the demo when they fire you..
MIke,
Yeh, a SIP sandwich, black walnut "bread" on one side and white oak "bread" on the inside a SIP as the "meat" .
Finished the portico where it got really intense, I am now moving to inside where I will make forms for each 4 inch shingle actaully I'll make nine forms and that way I can make make 9 shingles at a time, bend them and let them dry out in the forms
I'll need to make 265 shingles that way in one radius and 240 of another radius.. but they will dry over night and then I'll pull them out of the forms. The next day and make 9 more of one and 7 of the other radius. 30 some days worth of maybe an hours worth of work..
I will put a dormer on the portico but time wouldn't let me then. This way I can get really elaborate..
Good thing you have some time off now, so you might get something done on that dump! <G>
Beautiful, Frenchy...just beautiful...
splintergroupie,
Thanks, maybe if everybody realizes that looking for a job is harder than actaully working one the family might give me some slack to do the work..
Looking good! That you were able to successfully post more pictures shows even an old dog can learn new tricks, eh? ;-)
Are you going to get the exterior finished up in time to keep the city happy?
Stuart
Actaully I think I succeeded.. while there were a few trim pieces missing and I was shingling the roof when they came by I guess they decided to leave me in peace to finish everything. Oh and thanks once again for showing me how to post pictures..
Nice!

Mike,
well I didn't grow the trees. ;-)
But you did make the stones for the stonework, didn't you?
peteschlagor,
Well I've passed my share of kidney stones but none of them are on the wall. ;-)
Other than breaking some to fit I bought them all.. well a lot of them,, some I pulled out of the lake and some came from when I excavated. about 7% of them are twice fired paving bricks I got from when they tore up a road (they date from 1903) and about 3% is granite cobblestone from another road which was torn up..
The style actually has a name, it's called London Cobble. If you are really into stone work you'll see the joke I put into a couple of places.. real masons who understand such things get the joke immediately, most bricklayers and guys who just do stone work never see it let alone get the humor in it..
damn....!! I know he's gettin on a bit but hellfire... THAT AULD...???
