I have not done a good job of going back and taking pictures of my stairways after they are all finished. I was invited over to one that I recently built and brought my camera.
This is a brazilian cherry stairs with american cherry handrail and newels.

awesome......I would have preferred not to have painted those newls.....Was that their idea?
Pi: I am confused...,.the newels are stained...
Are you referring to the balusters?
It was their choice....but I was showing my wife these pictures today and we both decided that when I build a curved stairway for us...its going to have stained treads, newels and rail...and the skirtboards..risers and balusters will be painted....just like this one here.

"there's enough for everyone"
nah, he just revs up that flyin' machine to get her to the next level.

LOL....No, I'm confused.....I guess I mean the balusters.......See, you can always learn something....:)
stan , that is so cool.... i especially like the lighting on this one..

You do nice work, I'm glad you share it. Most all of the stairs I do (the only turns are winders, ha!)get painted skirts, risers and balusters, too. Hey, they've got to paint them to hide all the caulk<G>.Did you do the chair rail and panel mould? Is it flex mold, or wood?I love your pics fronm the top of the stairs, like this one: Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Looks like my mac doesn't like to share your pics, sorry...yeah Mike, how'd you do that?..LOL Don't worry, we can fix that later!
stan. & billy.... some olde duffer showed me how a long time ago
when you view a picture.. put your mouse in the middle... and "right click"...
that will bring up a menu .. choose "copy"
then when you are composing your post.. just "paste" it in..

beware.... some people with dial-up modems don't like this because it can be a slow load.. and they have no choice like they do if they choose to click and view your pics
hey, stan.... as good as your stairs look .... they look even better in the finished productMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Mike: You dont know who you are trying to teach computer literacy to. The last time I "pasted" anything was in kindergarten back in 1959.

bucksnort: I didnt do the wall moulding...it is that flex trim...

Very nice work. I too prefer the painted balusters unless the wood is something real special. Otherwise it looks too much like a wood factory.
Stan-
gorgeous work.
That's a really impressive staircase.
Keep them pics coming (please)
You make me want to be a better carpenter.

Mr. Foster, I think most of the recipients of your work don't deserve it.Are you ever going to write a book on this stuff?
Stan, Really nice. Very elegant.
I, like most here, appreciate your pictures.
J.
As always, spectacular.
In a strange way, the unfinished pics I have seen from you are even more impresive. Don't get me wrong, this looks great, and correct. (I am on the fence regarding the balusters)...but the shots in the raw really show off the craftsmanship.
My only regret is that I can't hire you to do my stairs!

Jake: I totally understand some liking painted balusters and some would rather have them stained. I would say about 2/3ds of my stairs have painted balusters. I used to prefer an all stained stairway....but I have since favored the look of this stairway over one that is all stained.
It would be a boring world if we all had the same likes....<G>
That is absoLUTELY beautiful!!!

As always, beautiful!
I like the painted balusters, just wouldn't want to do them.

Wow, I like the sun's lighting on the stairs! Beautiful masterpiece!
As usual, I wouldn't expect
anything but perfection
AWESOME!
