tip from the bosses…
position a fan (ie. bathroom exhaust) within the housing to cool off equipment and get even, high amp performance from this inexpensive welding equipment.
can anyone share experiences with their dual sliding compound miter saw? model #?

Brian,
Tell me a liitle about the fan trick. I have a Lincoln Weld-Pak that welds just fine but shuts down to cool off after ten or twenty minutes of welding.
My SCMS is the DeWalt 708. It is a great saw but it is sure heavy to carry around.
*Cheap sears welder, took the cabinet off welder, put 1/3 HP blower from old furnace aimed at core&windings, can run it at 250 A all day long as fast as I can get new rod into holder and cool off holder in bucket of water. Note: mounted with 240V terminals taped and inaccessible.
*wish i could be specific, cole, but this is not my area. my boss showed me his adaptation and i thought it valuable to pass along. his chicago welding equipment cost him under $160 and he states that it performs like models costing 2-3 times as much. and it's a 120V model. your equipment sounds like a candidate for this upgrade. bath exhaust fans are relatively small and readily available. take some dimensions. remove the housing and see how she'll fit. it'll be a relatively inexpensive experiment.saw a chicago sliding comp'd miter selling at $99 and was wondering about how fair the accuracy was? i keep seeing their cutoff miters on jobs.brian
*Coming from Harbor Freight I can just imagine...........Most of their stuff is pure crap and a waste of money unless you PLAN to throw it away.............I've always chuckled at the 'brand' names they use: 'Chicago', 'Pittsburgh', hey man, this junk is made in China! How about more truth in advertising, like: 'Beijing Forge', 'Yangtze Pneumatic'.........I will admit there's some of their stuff that I've bought and felt OK about. 7 piece 12" brad point bit set for $8, can't beat it with a stick. 16 piece Forstner bit set in a wood case for $24, can't argue with that. 4" angle grinder with a dry diamond blade to rough cut masonry, $25 and you can throw it away after a couple jobs.........Not too bad if you know what to buy.
*the welding outfit is made in italy.and is crappy without the fan added. apparently sears and lincoln the same. but at harbor freight, it'll cost less. for +$10 and a little of your time, you end up with a high performance welder!harbor freight... yeah. that's why i'm looking for feedback on the DCMS! i'm trying out the chicago chop saw on some door threshholds this week.don't use my philly screwdriver anymore since they came out with cordless drills :-)brian
