This just came to me on my daily insurance info email.
I was surprised to see it. Several Federal elected officials want the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall certain drywall made in China. An interesting report. Millions paid out already.
Just some thing we should all know about.
I know their plywood is worse than bad, now drywall.

It was discussed here several months ago. My impression is that the Chinese drywall mainly showed up after Katrina in the southeast United States, because the US manufacturers were either out of commission and/or couldn't keep up with the temporary demand.
From what we are seeing here in SW Florida where it all started, this might have just been one shipment of really bad stuff from one vendor(Knauf), used by one builder (Lennar). After the news got a hold of that, they started noticing traces of sulfur in a lot of it around the country. The bad stuff is actually rotting out A/C coils, wiring and just about anything else made out of copper or aluminum. In these cases the replacements quickly rotted out too. I would really be curious about the other incidents and if it is as pronounced.
I have to wonder if this is a legitimate concern or an overreaction.
I can't help but think of hazmat situations where they come in with suits and gear to clean some spilled mercury from a school bus that some kid had... major operation and overreaction.
Even fluorescent bulbs are considered hazardous material and require massive efforts to clean up a broken one per the government.

If this stuff was really that dangerous everyone in Sulfur Oklahoma would have been dead years ago.
I agree we certainly overreact to these kinds of things. Lead and asbestos are two glaring examples.
The articles don't point to a health hazard as much as a maintenance nightmare. The stuff causes copper corrosion though reaction. Mike
