This is a project oldest DD and I are doing the day after Thanksgiving – it’s for her herb garden that she made from volunteers from the school’s organic herb garden. We designed it around a cut-down RubberMaid tub. She’s studying Colonial GA, and wanted a Chippendale style.
Nice as it looks, it’s all made from recovered pallet wood – oak and Jatoba. Plus, someone gave me the tub when I bought some car parts, so it’s going to be free! Just finished the legs before lunch; now figuring out the Chippendale panel joinery – bleaugh!
Hooray for 3D CAD –

DD just pointed out that was the old tub model - I had forgotten to put in the side notches where the handles were -

My furniture is all from Chip and Dale.
The chipped stuff I found, mostly in the alley. And my cousin Dale gave me the rest when he went up the river for a stretch in a state institution.
I don't think your DD would like to know you call her that here. (G)

Major pieces cut; sanding away. Going to apply coats of clear WB poly before glue-up (it's to be all dowelled together).

Nice.
What kinda sliding table is that on the Unisaw? Home made?
you still shouldn't call her that. (G)Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

The table is was an attachment for the Unisaw; I got it when I got the saw about 1994 - pretty handy sometimes, but it limits putting the fence the left of the blade for bevel rips.
I'm still not sure what you mean!

Riddle on the other post of what the Chippendales have...LOL.

BTW, I covet that saw..had on a past shop, never saw that slider before. Cool.Ya know, Frenchy can get a million pallets for a dollar. Think how many stands you can make for that.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Tonight was glue-up of the main body. I realized, as I spread the glue in the first dowel hole (1/2" and 1/4"), not only had I never trial-fit anything, I had never even held the pieces up against eachother to see if they would fit or anything - such is the power and confidence of good CAD!

Forrest,
Nice work.

Thanks - here's the after-dinner project, once this gorgeous day got too dark to scrape on the house - lots of little fiddley bits. I think I'll just assemble them with 23-gauge pins, and mount them top and bottom with dowels through the side rails - the top holes will then be covered with the Jatoba top plates, and the bottom holes won't show.
Do you have any opinion on the finishing sequence? For the main body, I gave everything a coat of WB poly, hanging it all from dowel holes. then sanded with 220, another coat of poly, let dry, and assembled it - piece o' cake.
Here, holding all these pieces while they dry individually will be a pain. Assemble first, and then sanding the first coat will be a pain. Hmmmm . . .

Forrest,What a great project.Your finish sounds good.I am a fan of shellac. I use clear as well as amber. I cut it 50-50. The first piece will be dry to recoat before you finish the last piece. About 15 minutes. Non-toxic. The original green finish. (Frenchy had nothing to do with this. LOL )Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood

I thought the entire point to the Chippendales was that they HAD nuts.
Assembled the Chippendale panels with 23-gauge pins, 2X coats of danish oil, then screwed in through top and bottom rails. Painted the RubberMaid tub with some HammerTone Copper spray paint.
