There’s a bumper crop of apples this year so dusted off the cider press yesterday. A perfect October afternoon, cool enough that we didn’t attract any bees, yet warm enough for shirtsleeves. Here’s a few pics of the equipment. Wish I could email everyone a taste. Two bushels of apples yielded about 5 gallons. Hopefully Sam will remember days like this one when I am long gone, just like I remember doing the same with my father many years ago (.with the same press)

Nice post. Love good cider, used to get it up in the Santa Cruz mountains when i was growing up. Love those apples too, not like you find at a supermarket.

Hey - what if you used that expanding window foam between plates to press the cider so the poor kid wouldn't get torqued around?

I love good cider, but its getting harder to find real cider as more places boil it. I've also heard that you can add a couple crab apples to the press to get a slightly different flavor.
And hard cider is good too.
