Cieling Radiant heat and crown moulding
What is the proper way to install crown moulding when the ceiling has an electric radiant heat system that we do not want to nail into? The contractor used construction adhesive at the ceiling connection, with mechanical fasteners (nails) at the wall intersection.
Being an architect, I am not allowed to tell him how to install it, but I am allowed to judge the final aesthetic results, and within 6 months, there are up to 5/8″ gaps at the cieling.
Any suggestions?

the proper way to do crown if you cannot nail into the ceiling is to add in a corner block behind the mouldings nailing horizontal into the wall top plate no adhesive is necessary just a clean fit . now if the ceiling is uneven you will see gaps if this is a paint grade situation just caulk but don't forget about the heat from the ceiling sometimes a small gap or a shadow line is much less obvious than caulking I ran into similar problem in some house that had cement block walls with wood framing and plastered ceilings the ceiling line would crack because of expansion I covered the corner with crown and left the bottom edge floating. there were small gaps but it looked fine
in trim and mouldings work 5/8 inch is not a gap. its falling off the wall.
