Circ. Saw w/ good dust extraction?

PaulBinCT | Posted in Tools for Home Building on July 4, 2004 06:25am

When I bought the saw guide that was the subject of the recent lengthy thread I decided to get a new saw with dust extraction.  The only one I could find locally was a (ducking) Ryobi.  It was cheap enough that if I have to can it I won’t be heartbroken, but the dust “extraction” is essentially worthless.  Apparently the current PC no longer has it.  Anyone have any recommendations?  (It also needs a RH blade by the way, to work with the guide).  I do a lot of my work indoors and the dust is just choking me…Thanks!

I too need to "collect" the dust as I cut up alot of ply for cabinets. Ended up with The makita saw for hardi planks. http://www.makita.com/Tools_Item_View.asp?id=219

This is a very nice saw, not cheap but I am glad to have it. Mine came from here http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/a/makita/5057kb.htm?L+coastest+yxqd3036ff02ce02+1088969175 The existing blade cuts plywood very very cleanly with little splintering.

For what it's worth I can hook up my Makita circular saw to my Fein shop vac with an adapater, don't use the set up often but for occasional cuts to finish is fancy dan house thats occupied it fits the bill.

Let's not confuse the issue with facts!

Buy the festool circular saw system.

paul... i bought an old model  743 PC  ( the right hand version of the 347 )  or maybe i have the numbers reversed... anyways..

i really like my left hand PC, and the saw dust port will work great.. so i bought the older PC sut for my EZ-Guide...

the PC's can usually be found on sale as closeouts..  i like them a lot more than the new model PC , which has an extremely annoying noise level

Thanks Mike... I'll have to go look for one.  I shoulda remembered...buy cheap, buy twice...

Ditto to what Mike said about the older 347 (rh/no brake), 447 (rh w/brake), 743 (lh). PC makes a hose  (about $23) and adapter that hooks up to my Shop Vac; it works well. I still have to switch the vac on manually; I still have not found a switch that will handle the 347's 15 amps.

my fein vacumn with autoswitch will handle itMike Smith   Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore

A Fein isn't in the budget............ yet. Shop Vac has a model w/ an autoswitch but it's rated for only 8 amps ........same with the stand alone switch I looked at.  Just got a PC 3812S tablesaw- do you use the Fein w/ your 3812 and how well does the dust port/ collection work?

PC makes an auto ON vac. It's quiet and has a high efficiency extraction. Perfect for your PC saw. All nice grey.

Already have that MG ;) and it is a great vac.

I'll have to give it another look and also talk to the PC rep. I'd ruled it out because of the specs- vac has 9 amp motor, 15 w/tool- that leaves only 6 amps for whatever you plug into it.

The PC marketing material claims the new saws have a vacuum dust port.  I have the last generation saw, and the dust port works pretty well.

Thanks... I've been looking on Ebay and the only 347s for sale looked a tad mangy so I guess I'm going to pop for one of the new ones although I'm a little unsure of the quick blade change thing...

You might take a look at PC's Model 345 (SawBoss)" It's a 6" blade on left saw. It's light, will cut 2x's @ 45, and uses the same nozzle setup as the 347.
