Hi Guys!
I usually hang on “Over the Fence” and am hoping that this forum will be equally interesting and informative. I would appreciate all your good advice since I do everything myself too.
I am interested in putting in a circular driveway. My question is,before I enlist costly labour and equipment, how do I begin to calculate the length and width of the arc?
How much space do I need?
What are the “normal” dimensions?
I’m interested in only 1 lane or should I make it 2 lanes?
Cheers,
Viliam

I went to a copy of Architectural Graphic Standards. (Ramsey/Sleeper 10E) The list of variables is fairly substancial. So...
What will be using it?
How much space do you have to use?
What will it service?
Turn outs?
Elevation Changes?
Off drive parking?
On drive parking?
Bypasses?
Jump in the largest thing coming and going and test drive the site as though there was drive there. Have help mark [flag] the IS/OS of where you go.
Thanks for responding.
You have raised some imp points. Give me time to answer them, but first I think I should go and measure the space that I think I have. I,m also going to try to dig up my survey. As soon as I get some hard facts to work with I''ll come back.
Cheers

Made mine 10' wide. Depends upon how much room, and what kind of vechicles you have. Hook all of your garden hose together, and lay out an arc where you want it, and drive it. Don't forget that a car parked in the drive will block it, so make allowances for parking.
I'm rearing to go!
Thanks for the garden hose idea.

Arch Graphic Standards has some great chrts for driveway layout..
i like 12' wide.. and 24' minimum radius... allow for drainage, off driveway parking.. and y-turns for garagesMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Hi mike,
Would you by any chance have a website address where I could view the arch standards for circular driveways?
Cheers,

no, but your library should have AGS... i have VS. 6 & 7.... thye must be up to vs. 10 by nowMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I have v10 of AGS. There is roughly 6 pages of driveway. For your purposes a used book store or the library and they are fun places to go to.
A AGS book is some serious denairo. Find a used one and it will even answer your wife's questions. 3rd editions are out there. There is simply so many variables to your question that it would be impossible to give practicale useable answers especially with so many unknowns.
