I have seen an article for running wood trim around a new clad window in FINE HOMEBUILDING, but have searched all my past issues with no luck. I have lent a couple issues to friends and naturally, they have not been returned.
Does anyone remember the article, or have a good method to Install about a two inch wood trim around the aluminum window frame. I am remodeling an old house and decided to put PELLA clad windows in because I hate painting and reglazing drafty old windows!!! Thanks for any help.

Don't know if this is what your looking for but when I trim windows that have a flange I run the trim on edge through my table saw to remove enough material from the back so as to let the trim sit flat.I then prime all 6 sides. Bottom (siil) piece installed first the width of the unit. Two sides then head piece. Using two inch trim may require that you pre-drill through trim and flange and then nail. I always use stainless steel nails on exterior trim. always caulk around trim and set siding into this bed of caulk. Hope this helps.
That is what I was looking for. Do you caulk under the trim before you put it on? Thanks, Joe
I don't caulk under trim but I do caulk outside edge. this is usually done as I side caulking just 2 or 3 ft. at a time so that I have an uncured bead of caulk to lay my siding into. BTW I use a product called Pro-Flex on all my exterior work. Best caulk I've ever used by far. I keep a rag soaked in thinner and rung out to clean fingers etc. as this is not a water based caulk.
