    Good point.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen ads on the internet with no suggestion whatsoever about where the poster is located.

Kinda like my "bandsaw fer sale" post.....................(-:

The longest journeys start with the first step... and continue one step at a time.

Also you need to give a few details.

The diameter (and number) of the wheels whould be a basic starting point. Also any name that is on it.

        BossHog | Oct 11, 2002 01:17am | #4

It has 5 or 6 wheels, if you count the old lawn mower wheels that are piled on top of it.

As for the diameter question - I never give my waist size out online.

I never wrote my name on the band saw.

Is that the info you're looking for?

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

No :-) Where do you live?

I live in Illinois. Figured half the folks here probably know that by now. Since you're an "outcast" from the cookies, I shouldn'tve expected you to know that.........................(-:

            Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.

          2. kai230 | Oct 11, 2002 07:34am | #7

Hell, boss, I could be an outcast in my own town. I just don't want to have to drive from San Diego to NY for a part I could get in, say, AZ. I must have missed something (besides reading all posts from the beginning of time) for you or anyone to think I would have recalled where you lived (unlike some women who might be stalking you). But that's OK; I'll just pepper the board w/"Where are you located?" questions. It's not my server load. SO sorry. Yes, I'm cranky. Get used to it!

Now  Now children lets not break the new toy on the first weekend!!!

Brian; after such a great start to things, a few small ideas may help the confusion just a little .   A standard form, or  list of information required to post?

Make, Model, approximate age, weight, location, price, extra parts, general condition

Also, you better find a way to help people figure freight cost's, as it can govern a lot of purchases.  I live in Hawaii, so know first hand what freight can do to tool purchases.  Good Luck!!

Good suggestions Mr Lucky in Paradise! I went to http://ups.com/ and, if you know the dimensions, packaging type, weight, to/from zips, etc., you can get freight estimates.

Brian, it wouldn't be all that hard to make a form (say, in Word), and save it as a .dot file, so it could be an online form.

          5. andybuildz | Oct 11, 2002 02:09pm | #10

            Kai

What are you and Handydan trying to do with "forms".that'd be so unlike Breaktime. No fun! I personally like the long drawn out personal selling banter. Is banter a word? That UPS link would certainly be helpful though to keep posted. All one would need to do is to post their zip code.

Well, I don't know LOL! I just had to fill in imaginary stuff to get shipping rates and thought maybe standard fields would be a guideline . . . I would lay odds, however, that even the best designed form might fool someone.

            Now you had to

            go and bring

me up and I was just lurking ! LOL!

youse got lots of shipping methods, ups, usps, fedex, dlh, freight, etc. think it's best to let the two parties decide.

"...A standard form, or  list of information required to post?  Make, Model, approximate age, weight, location, price, extra parts, general condition"

I hope that you guys will be able to think of, and include all necessary information without a form.  I don't believe that there are forms for most newspaper classifieds, and they seem to be doing fine.

"Also, you better find a way to help people figure freight cost's, as it can govern a lot of purchases.  I live in Hawaii, so know first hand what freight can do to tool purchases."

I'm sorry Handyman, but all I can do is monitor posts and make sure the rules are being adhered to.  As the Rules say, we will take no part in, or responsibility for transactions.  That is between the buyer and seller.

            Good luck and have fun,

            Brian

            Brian

I think all the suggestions are vaild BUT I don't think necessary. Just appreciate the fact that you gave us the "Classifieds", period. I'm sure between Emails and posts we can figure out how to deal with it. This isnt Ebay after all. Although Paypal would be a nice feature...lol. I've already gotten an Email for the pumpjacks I listed yesterday. Thanks again Brian.

Did you know that ebay has online classes to learn how to USE it????? I went there one day to try and sell something and after spending a five hour period I said "FORGET THIS!" I have never understood what is so great about that place.Tamara

            Tamara

I love Ebay. I bought a $4500 totally chromed out motorcycle with less then 5000 miles on it in mint conition. Shipped it up here to NY from Florida. Great communication with the seller. I've also bought some other incredable stuff at seriously good prices. As far as classes go. Oiy vey! Dont wanna know about it. I get the whole concept and know the stratagies as in any auction. I was never burned after dozens of deals and feel I always made out...ANDDDDD, it was fun.
