What’s the best way to get that gunk off the inside of the glass of a door to a woodburning insert? And anything to use to keep it clean?

Searching the Internet I found this website,
http://hearth.com/what/cleanglass.html.
The article describes a Blue paste or cream that works well. Typically the cleaner will come in a 12 oz. Bottle, called Fireplace Glass Door Cleaner or Woodstove Glass Cleaner. I suspect you can find it at a fireplace dealer or home center.
You rub a little on the glass (glass must be cool) and let it dry to a haze, then rub it off.
The gal who sold me my Jotul claimed that dipping a wadded up newspaper in water to dampen it and then in ashes and finally rubbing it on the stove door glass would remove soot/creosote/etc buildup very effectively.
I have found it somewhat succesful at doing a half hearted cleaning but the chemical stove glass cleaner works great aside from the expense of buying it.

Oven Cleaner works the best. Just did mine yesterday. It took about 15 minutes.
