I have an old house with old radiators. The system used to be steam and was at some point converted to hot water. So it has huge old galvanized pipes filled with crud. Some of the radiators are so filled with crud that they only heat on the bottom 3 inches. Now I’ve installed and worked with new and old hot water systems (including the project I’m working on now where we are recycling old radiators to a Hydro Pulse). Now my question is how do you clean old and semi– old radiators out? I’ve spoken to many plumbers who have told me that muturic acid diluted is the only way, but none of these people can seem to be able to tell me exactly how to add it to a system. Do I drain it and figure out a way to funnel it in? If I do use the acid do I worry about mycirculatorr pump or zone valves? Does anyone know? Some of the other old systems I’ve worked on have alsoprobably never been cleaned.

*i we send everyone over there with questions about hydronic heating becuase they are the experts (especially dealing with older systems).Speak for yourself, not for everone here.
*I guess I should have said "I send...", but I was just trying to help out Jason since no one had answered him after several days and many others here have, in the past, sent steam heat / old water heat questions on over there.kiss and make up?:o)
*What kind of guy do you think I am ?LOL
*just kidding!
*Luka, so you know about this stuff? Great... speak up because we need an expert here. Oh, you don't? Then what is your beef?Hey, I like you. Just had to comment.
*Wet head,I didn't say anything at all about the subject of cleaning old radiators, and that was on purpose. While I don't know about cleaning out old radiators, I DO know that it is not general practice at this forum to chase everyone who has a question, off to some other forum to have their question answered. The post previous to mine basicaly made it seem that was the general case. What exactly is your own beef ? I never claimed any knowledge at all of the subject of radiators, let alone imply any sort of expertise. I simply don't believe that the reason for this forum being here, is to chase everyone off to other forums.
*I have no beef... sorry if it seemed that way. I thought you were commenting in fun and I meant to respond in the same manner...Olive branch?
*Absolutely.b : )Too often these sorts of things get way out of hand before you know it. It is not that big a deal at all. I didn't want to make it seem like it was any greater a deal than it was, and took the approach I did. Apparently that kinda backfired on me. LOLI'd personaly like to see every single question asked here, get answered here, but sometimes the only answer available is to send someone to another forum somewhere. I just didn't want to let it slide looking like the general approach here was to just push all real questions off somewhere else.Peace.b : )
*Hey you guys it's allright, I found the information I needed at the site you recomended, It said never clean them out, so I won'tThanks Jason
