What are the real advantages of full head vs. clip head framing nailers? I have a Bostitch SB80-1 clip head. I was told recently that a lot of local building codes do not accept clip heads anymore for framing!!?!? It’s ok by our local dept, how about other areas??

Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

alad, cliped-head nails are no longer accepted in
many applications for one reason. Hurricane Andrew. Right or wrong, the blame for Insurance
Industry losses were pinned on the use of cliped-head nails instead of full head nails.
Roof sheathing tore off, exposing the contents to damage... or so the story goes...
*I saw full head nails for clip head nailers the other day. The head is offset from the shank so they would feed. I think they were from Paslode.
