OK, this is your chance to arbitrate a little dispute between me and my wife.
I just installed a set of wood double doors for a coat closet by the front door, 6′ wide (two 3′ slabs), 6-panel style. They will close with magnetic “catches” mounted on the head jamb.
Thinking we would match the hardware on all the other interior doors, I ordered dummy knobs of the same make and style(http://productselector.emtekdoorlocks.com/product.asp?parent=12&id=28&rid=11&finishid=10&functionid=1).
My wife thinks they’re too big and wants to use cabinet-sized knobs (http://www.acornmfg.com/browse.php?cId=2&scId=8&item=AP1BP). I say these are too small and it’s perfectly normal to use standard door knobs on a closet. She’s says “wrong.”
What do you say? Is it perfectly conventional to mount normal-sized conventional dummy hardware on a pair of wooden double doors for a closet?

That is why the dummy hardware is made.
She's wrong, IMO, but the customer is always right.
And she is the customer

I just did a finish with Emtek hardware, and all my closet doors, two of them doubles, are outfitted with dummies to match the doors.
Cabinet hardware is for cabinets. Door hardware is for doors.
But as Pif said, the customer is always right. And, you will save money.
What width and style were those double doors?
Thanks.
Two-panel doors, 2/0 x 6/8 each, closet opening 4/0 x 6/8, Emtek "Cortina" lifetime brass finish, one dummy per door.
I have done it with Schlage "Providence" at 1/6 each, total width 3/0 for the closet.
Never used cabinet hardware for closets.
Normally we don't try to get into decision between husband and wife but this one is a no brainer. See Piffin's post.
Are the doors heavy? If you put in cabinet knobs she may change her mind after breaking a few finger nails.
You're right
Sounds like we have another of Boss Hog's Witicisms going on here

You're right, but it won't prevent you from catching on fire tonight or you're breakfast Post Toasties tasting like Decon if you live through the fire.
What piffin said.
On the other hand, it's not worth argueing over.
On still ather hand, in my house, I do the building - she does the decorating. (door knobs are building) I still think brown and beige goes with everything though, but I guess that's why i'm not good at decorating :-)
Matt
brown and beige is seventies
but don't worry, it'll come back in fashion!

In my house I'm King, Boss, Exhaulted Grand High Thumper. Why? Because my wife said I could be.
Never serious, but always right.
Sorry fellas, I blew it. The doors are actually 1 1/2' wide each, not 3' like I said in my earlier post.
Does that change your answer?
If it were my house ("hey, wait a minute. . .") I would still use the dummies.
Reminds of when we were installing the housewrap, and I was telling one of the crew that my wife wanted the house clad in white cedar shingles while I wanted clapboards. I joked with this guy that since you can order housewrap with custom text and decorations on it, we should order some printed like this:
"CAUTION: Install under clapboards ONLY"
Guess what our siding ended up being? That's OK, I like shingles fine--and I got my way with the fieldstone hearth!
Ed, in your first post you wrote:

Wait a minute Ed, you blew it. You'll never get another question answered here at BT.
Are you saying you cut down the doors to half the size to justify putting cabinet knobs on just to save face and please DW? :)
Do the right thing, put the dummy's on. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing, I know I would but I dont know your wife so you do what you have to. Save the cabinet hardware for the cabinets.
