When you build over a crawl space in a cold climate, how do you keep things from freezing? Not uncommon here in Michigan to see 20 below zero. I’m thinking about the main water line as it leaves the ground and goes through the cold air in the crawl space. How about drain lines? What about traps hanging below the floor? Anything else I should consider concerning a crawl space?

I got tired of a frozen water line to the kitchen and no easy access to remedy it. I had it excavated and a full basement built under that portion of the house. Now for a more financially practical answer .... I notice a friend uses some kind of heating cord (can't think of the proper name) that he wraps around the pipes. It plugs into 110V.
