hello all,
I will be setting several windows this week. Temperatures are expected to stay around 40′ and hit 30 at night. What type of caulk do you suggest I use that will perform well under these conditions. Any other tip to flash/waterproof these windows in this weather. They are aluminum clad with nailing fin.
thanks

What is the difference between this?

My lumberyard only carries the 1st one (the one I use, btw)

given the choice---- you want the 2300 in the purple tube.
I wouldn't feel bad about using the first stuff--it's still very good
there is also a 3300 in a green tube. you do NOT want to try using the 3300 in cold weather---and even in warm weather be aware the 3300 is less uv resistant than the 2300
when in doubt--2300

I've never seen the first one. I suspect they may be the same thing in a different tube for different markets. The 2300 (purple tube) is usually only sold at roof supply houses. They may have repackaged for other markets. At any rate, I've not found a bad Geocel product yet.http://logancustomcopper.com

You may be right on the packaging and/or the roofing supply deal. I don't roof so I don't go into those types of places (thank god). My lumberyard carries other geocel products also and I recently switched to the one indicated from a lesser geocel product.
Also, could it be and east coast/west coast deal?

grant--- both of the products he showed are marketed here. the first one through lumberyards-- the second one through roofing supply houses---- the 3rd one i mentioned has polyuerethane in it and is REALLY stiff in the cold
the first one is a little runnier---- don't use it in a vertical application in the heat--it will run downhill pretty fast.
Stephen
It doesn't ever get that hot here! I have used it for windows in mid-summer and never seen it run.

Hey Grant
--before i forget------- do you have a source for gutter foam for 5" half round gutters ?--- you know-the screen that looks like a scotch brite pad ?
I need at least 24ft. and preferably about 160'--- know any suppliers on line ?
thanks, Stephen
>>>>>>>>do you have a source for gutter foam for 5" half round gutters ?Yeah - but we don't install it like the instructions say. I use the stomp shear to cut 2" wide strips that we lay in the bottom of the gutter (stick 'em in place with gutter seam caulk) and then lay a 5" wide strip over that (stuck to the first piece and the sides of the gutter with seam caulk).http://www.flofree.com/http://logancustomcopper.com

Download the tech sheets on both.A quick look and I did not see any difference. All of the tech specs are idential. The only thing that I saw was that 2300 had an adhesion spec on steel and kyvar that Pro Flex did not show.
thanks for the info. is there anything else I should be aware of in the cold weather during the install
You could try keeping the caulk inside in a warm spot, instead of in the cold truck. That will help it flow better when you get ready to use it.
Also, it's sticky as heck. And, like roofing tar, will magnetize toward you and your clothes. You WILL get it on you no matter how careful you are. So don't even bother trying to be careful. Mineral spirits usually cleans it up nice.
