Help! I know I’ve seen this product at a trade show somewhere, but now I need it for a job. It’s a pre-made kit for wrapping a basement steel column. it has a bunch of slats of wood with a flexible backer and you cut it to length and wrap it around the column. Anybody know what I’m talking about and where to get it?

In older homes like these, the main remodeling goal is often a more welcoming, more social, and more functional kitchen.

Hi Andy,
Here is a place for you to start out for column shells. Sounds like you have a project just like mine. http://meltonclassics.com/columns/frp.htm

I installed two of those in a basement remodel last week. I didn't have my camera so I couldn't get pictures. It's called Pole-wrap.
See thread http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=40000.1
Order on line from http://asktooltalk.com/cgi-local/sk_store.cgi?P%3Dproducts/polewrap/index.html.
Word of advice on ordering, make sure you know the diameter of column and order the correct bases/caps for the pole diameter. The caps and bases are 1/2" larger than the poles because they are applied after the wrap is installed. Even with the added diameter, however, I had to use my spindle sander to enlarge the inner diameter to fit around the wrap. The wrap is applied using construction adhesive, and you trim the wrap to the next largest segment above the pole's circumference, so it might fit a little loose, but once the adhesive sets up, it's pretty firm.
Another piece of advice on the caps, if you are applying them to a ceiling or beam, ensure the surface is free of textured finish, and it helps if there is a nailing surface under it, if you plan on nailing. You can just use adhesive, but I sunk some finish nails to be sure.
My client decided to paint the stuff white after I had ordered and received the wrap, otherwise I would have ordered the white vinyl stuff. The caps and bases are split into two halves to fit around the post when the wrap is installed. It's difficult to hide the seam, so painting them actually made them look better, as I was able to blend the seam using filler.
I had some extra (they come in 8 foot lengths) and will try to post a pic.
sounds like tambour, or a similar paneling product, usually available at paneling and engineered wood flooring outlets , but not h.d. or lowes.
